GEELONG MC: NICHOLAS BURT
CHIEF EXECUTIVE
FMA


BIOGRAPHY:

Nicholas Burt is CEO of the Facility Management Association of Australia (FMA). He has over 20 years’ leadership experience, including appointments at the senior executive level within the community services and facility management sectors for both NGOs and local government.

His roles have covered the entire spectrum of policy development and planning, program implementation and management. During his time with the FMA, Nic’s commitment to improving process has helped to drive industry development and deliver high-quality services to stakeholders in the facilities management sector.

Nic also chairs the Standards Australia technical committee MB-022, Facilities Management, and was involved in the development of the new ISO standards for facilities management.



     

          

            

 

GEELONG MC: KRIS GREENWOOD
STRATEGIC DIRECTOR
GJK FACILITY SERVICES
AND IMMEDIATE PAST CHAIR, FMA


BIOGRAPHY:

Kristiana is the Director Strategic Relationships at GJK Facility Services. Prior to this role, she was the Co-founder and Director of FM Innovations, an award-winning technology company which she sold in early 2019 to Zuuse, a leading global software platform for construction and building operations.

Kris is a graduate of AICD and was appointed the first female Chair of FMA Australia in 2015, and is currently on the board as the Immediate Past Chair. She is a Non-Executive Director of Zuuse, a Board Member of Housing All Australians, a Director of TEN Women and an Advisory Board Member of GJK.

Kris has been a passionate advocate of the FM industry for 25 years and has facilitated & spoken at many industry events.



     

          

            

 

PERTH MC: DAVID CHOKOLICH

ENGINEERING SERVICES, HFM ASSET MANAGEMENT

BIOGRAPHY:

David Chokolich is an experienced Mechanical Engineer with 25+years experience within the Built Environment covering diverse sectors including Commercial Property, Defence; Government, Energy & Resources, Water and Transport.

David's key areas of focus have been Sustainability, Asset/Facilities Management and HVAC within both Greenfield projects and existing assets.

David Chokolich's project work has included HVAC design, GreenStar, NABERS assessments, life cycle assessment; preparation of maintenance plans or implementing energy and/or water management strategies.

PERTH MC: ANNIE SCOTT
ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR
FACILITIES MANAGEMENT SAVILLS AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND

BIOGRAPHY:

Annie Scott is a Facilities and Asset Management professional ,experienced in operations mgt, procurement, compliance and project management . Annie’s past experience includes construction and WHS in Australia and Europe, She has worked in facilities for the last 8 years and as senior mgt for the last 2 years across a diverse portfolio of commercial, industrial assets as well as retail.

Annie currently holds a position as an Associate Director for the facilities management department at Savills Australia and NZ Perth ‘s office. She leads with an open mind, a strong focus on sustainability, efficiency, and innovation and is registered as a Nabers assessor.

Annie is the current WA FMA committee Chair.

She is passionate about the FM industry and a strong advocate for Women and diversity and currently sits on the PCA diversity committee .



     

          

            

 

SYDNEY MC: WALTER RAFIN
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
CAMPEYN GROUP

BIOGRAPHY:

Walter’s most recent role was at JLL, where he joined in late 2015 as Head of Solutions Development Australasia & Pacific, where he is responsible for the continued growth of the business and retention of existing clients. Prior to this role, Walter was GM Business Development ANZ for Cushman & Wakefield (DTZ).

Walter brings in excess of 30 years' experience in Facilities Management occupying senior national roles in Local Govt as Parramatta Council’s Facilities & Assets Manager, Aged Care as Anglican Retirement Villages’ National Facilities Manager, Aviation as Sydney Airports Corporation Limited’s (SACL) Facilities & Assets Manager & various other Commercial, Retail, Property Management & private sector services industries. In these roles, Walter has managed significant asset portfolios ranging from $1.5B - $4.5B, including SACL where he was responsible for 4 airports. Originally from a HVAC | mechanical background, Walter is a regular speaker on Facilities Management.




 

 

 

RHYS BARKER
EXECUTIVE GENERAL MANAGER

BIOGRAPHY:


Rhys is the Executive General Manager, Social Infrastructure, for Defence and Social Infrastructure at Ventia, following Ventia’s acquisition of Broadspectrum in June 2020. Prior to the acquisition Rhys has spent 8 years with Broadspectrum in a variety of roles including Business Development in the Resources business and General Manager roles in Performance Improvement, Innovation, Transitions and Operations.

Following completion of a degree in Electronic Engineering Rhys began his career in the Australian defence industry working in design and project management roles on a number of development programs, primarily in the areas of Electronic Warfare and Remote Sensing. Rhys transitioned into client focussed roles and led the business development function in a business unit that successfully commercialised a world leading technology in the global hydrographic surveying industry. He then transferred industries taking the position of GM Sales and Marketing for Liebherr Mining Australia, responsible for sale and support of all heavy mining equipment in Australia with clients including the major iron ore and coal miners.

The diversity of his roles, prior to joining and with Ventia, give him a unique experience base and shape his approach to clients, winning work, quality service delivery, improvement and innovation.

More recently he has worked to develop the Social Infrastructure business within Ventia across the housing, education, health and justice sectors. Driving to create a whole greater than the sum of the parts and striving to help solve government problems.

Living in Melbourne, Rhys is married to Natasha and has two teenage daughters, Chloe and Tess.


 



     

          

            

 

SHARON POLLARD

BIOGRAPHY:

Sharon Pollard is the Group Chief Operating Officer at IKON Services Australia.

She has accrued over a decade of extensive senior management experience in Facilities Management across both the public and private sectors globally.

Sharon has a broad range of “hands-on” international experience, underpinned by qualifications in Work Health and Safety, Project Management, Live Production (Theatre and Events, Lighting) and a MBA.

She was elected to the Facility Management Association's Board in 2019 and also supports the Diversity and Inclusion Special Interest Group and the Membership and Culture Policy Advisory Group.

Reece has extensive senior management and operational experience across property services and as Head of Operations, Integrated Facilities Management at Cushman & Wakefield has responsibility for developing and executing operational strategy and leading the centralized, multi-disciplined teams of IFM professionals, that partner with the on-site teams to deliver fully integrated services to the client base.

He is passionate about creating tailored and scalable solutions, that drive effective, efficient and seamless processes which are fit for purpose, ensuring a high quality of customer experience and value creation for the client base.


 




 

 

 

CRAIG HUMPHRIES

BIOGRAPHY:


In 2020, Craig Humphries was appointed State Director VIC/SA/ACT with BGIS, a leading global integrated facilities management and real estate services company. Craig has more than 30 years of experience across facilities management, operations management, company turnaround, change management, business development, project management, P&L and KPI delivery.

Prior to joining BGIS, Craig was Head of Operations with Hendry Group, where he was responsible for day to day operations across all chargeable service lines and business support functions. Key client sectors were health, education, aviation, aged care, industrial, retail, critical infrastructure, distribution centres, and CRE and FM providers.

Previous roles include Manager Buildings & Facilities at Mornington Peninsular Shire Council, District Operations Manager at Honeywell, Regional Operations Manager – FM at Spotless and Regional Facilities Manager at Department of Corrections NZ.

Tony is a senior member of JLL Corporate Solutions Business specialising in the provision of advice to organisations to drive strategic change, manage risk and improve real estate performance.

Prior to joining JLL in early 2007, Tony spent 10 years at the major accounting firms providing corporate real estate advice and strategies for clients in all industry sectors. This was preceded by 10 years as a real estate valuer.

Tony assists clients to navigate transformation, disruption, and uncertainty by aligning corporate real estate strategies to organisational objectives to help future proofing assets in a world of rapid change.

Emma currently manages the Reporting & Insights team providing information on our investments and includes reporting on risk, performance and investment communications.

Bryon Price is a Mechanical Engineer with notable and long-standing experience in air conditioning and building services design, installation and maintenance, along with sustainable and energy efficient buildings. He is Strategic Development Director of the A.G. Coombs Group of companies. During his career he has been responsible for a wide range of building services, energy and environmental projects.

Bryon is Chair of the Board of the Facility Management Association of Australia and Global FM Board member. He is a long-standing member of the Board of the Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air conditioning and Heating – AIRAH, and a member of the Board of Australian Refrigeration and Building Services - ARBS. He is an Australian Co-Chair of The International WELL Building Institute Task Force on COVID-19 and Other Respiratory Infections.

            




 

 

 

HOLLY TAYLOR

BIOGRAPHY:


Holly leads the Council's industry development and partnerships work. She focuses on strategic projects and partnerships that build the market for energy management, facilitating engagement with members and stakeholders, and connecting them with all aspects of the Council's programs.

This ranges from research and policy development, to supporting businesses with managing the risks and capturing the opportunities of Australia's energy transition, to developing CPD training opportunities for energy services professionals. Examples of work that Holly has led on include:

  • The Council’s energy briefing business engagement activities; 
  • The development of energy management system (EnMS) advisor training for energy services professionals; and 
  • The RACE for 2030 Cooperative Research Centre’s Developing the future energy workforce opportunity assessment project.
Holly has worked internationally with private and public sector clients that work on innovative solutions to tackle climate change. While in Europe, she worked for the UN, CDP and, most recently, Salix Finance, where she worked with councils, facilitating the development and delivery of energy and carbon management plans through energy upgrades. 





 

CARLOS FLORES

BIOGRAPHY:


Carlos Flores is the Director of the National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS), where he is responsible for all aspects of its delivery across Australia and overseas.

NABERS is the largest and one of the most successful government building sustainability initiatives in Australia, which is now also available in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. NABERS ratings provide simple, reliable and comparable sustainability measurement across building sectors including offices, apartments, hotels, shopping centres, data centres and more.

The program has been key in helping the Australian commercial property sector reduce energy at one of the fastest rates in the world over the past decade.

Carlos is a Mechanical Engineer by trade, and a regular speaker at all major building conferences in Australia and overseas, including multiple times at Ideaction, Transform, Green Cities, The Future of HVAC, and the Energy Efficiency Conference, among others.

Carlos has conducted sustainability masterclasses at the Imperial Colleague London, the University of Sydney, the University of Melbourne, the University of New South Wales, the University of Copenhagen, Ghent University and the University of Chile, among others.

He has represented Australia as a speaker in multiple international energy policy conferences and seminars. This includes several public events organised by the International Energy Agency, the G20 Energy Working Group as well as the United States Government.

BIOGRAPHY:


John has extensive building services experience both in contracting and consulting roles. This includes delivering innovative and sustainable solutions and advice.

Johns expertise covers the design of mechanical HVAC and trigeneration systems, complex Independent Commissioning Agent roles, building tuning, energy audits and the resolution of post construction issues requiring detailed investigation and analysis of complex systems for laboratories and energy plant.

John’s primary area of focus is sustainability and energy efficiency, working with building owners to optimise energy and water use within buildings, as the industry moves towards net zero emissions.

BIOGRAPHY:


Toby is ISCA's Head of Sustainability Leadership, in this role he is responsible for the management of the ISCA infrastructure rating process and ISCA’s talented case managers.

Toby is a sustainability professional who has over 20 years experience working across a range of sectors, including the: financial; infrastructure & building; extractives; NGO and manufacturing. He has worked on numerous infrastructure asset classes, including: water; power; transportation & ports. During his career he has held positions in Australia, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. More recently Toby has been involved in establishing and running of sustainable production standards for metals (Aluminium & Steel) and mining.

In his spare time Toby enjoys spending time in and around the ocean or hiking with friends and family.


 




 

RICHARD BOELE

BIOGRAPHY:


Richard is the Lead Partner of KPMG Banarra, KPMG’s first dedicated human rights and social impact advisory team. Richard offers over 20 years of experience in advising on and helping companies manage their human rights and social risks, including in relation to complex operating contexts.

Much of this work has focused on identifying and managing human rights risks in operations and supply chains. Modern slavery is one of the many human rights risks he has supported a wide range of clients from all sectors in addressing during his career.

His particular strengths are engaging decision makers on strategic human rights and social risks,and asking the challenging but important questions that lead to many an executive’s career “ah-ha” moment.

Richard leads the largest dedicated business and human rights team in Australia as well as being the global head of KPMG’s Business and Human Rights Network.

Bronwyn is the co-author of the Building Confidence Report. Her appointment with Professor Shergold to undertake this work reflects her reputation as a legal advisor on building regulations for more than 20 years.

Bronwyn is part of the Expert Advisory Group appointed to advise the ABCB on its work to develop a national framework for the implementation of the report. Other related work includes advising the NSW Building Commissioner, the VBA the QLD Government and the Department of Defence in relation to building regulatory issues.

TONY ARNEL

BIOGRAPHY:

Tony Arnel has devoted more than two decades to the task of driving sustainability through global built environments. He has held leadership roles in the private and public sectors for over thirty years. A highly regarded executive with extensive private sector, local government, state government, peak body and statutory authority experience. He possesses specialised knowledge of service delivery organisations, project delivery, sustainability, regulatory environments, policy development and organisational change, as well as high level leadership, general management, political and advocacy skills. He is also a well-established non-executive director and chairman with involvement in a variety of boards.

Tony has a national reputation as well as a proven track record as innovator, policy developer and advocate with a comprehensive understanding of political processes.

A founding director of the Green Building Council of Australia, Tony chaired the organisation during a rapid period of growth between 2007 and 2012. Today, he is one of a select few GBCA Life Fellows. Tony also chaired the World Green Building Council, the umbrella group representing more than 70 green building councils, between 2008 and 2011.

Tony is a Life Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.






ROB PRADOLIN
MANAGING DIRECTOR
BUILT ENVIRONMENT COMPLIANCE

BIOGRAPHY:


Robert is a civil engineer by background, graduating from Monash University with Honors, and has been active in the property industry for over 35 years, most recently as General Manager of Frasers Property Australia (formally Australand). He also received a post graduate diploma in Property from RMIT and an MBA from Mt Eliza Management College.

Over his career, Robert has always had a keen interest in the development of all housing types and in particular, a focus on housing affordability. His experience extends from the development of land subdivisions through to medium density housing and apartments.

Robert also steered Australand into the social and affordable housing space with the commercial redevelopment of three significant Victorian government housing estates. Through this time, he established a number of lasting relationships with both sides of the political spectrum and is frequently called on to provide an informed industry view on proposed policies.

Over his time at Australand/Frasers, Robert was also the driver behind the company’s foray into timber medium rise construction resulting with the company building The Green, Australia’s first 5 storey timber apartment building built with the use of traditional domestic labor, resulting in cost saving in excess of 20% to a traditional concrete building. It was also at The Green that relationships were formed with the Fire Authorities and were the catalyst to the creation of Built Environment Compliance several years later.

Robert has extensive relationships within the property industry, predominantly established through his personal commitment and activity within the industry. He is currently on the Board of Summer Housing Ltd, Salvation Army Housing (Vic), the Property Industry Foundation and the HIA in Victoria. Robert is a past Board member of the Property Council of Australia, the Residential Development Council, UDIA (Vic), Livable Housing Australia, the Heritage Council of Victoria and is involved with housing research and policy development with Melbourne University.





 

MATTHEW MCDONALD
TEAM LEADER
BCR IMPLEMENTATION

BIOGRAPHY:


Matt has 25 years’ experience in the construction industry. He is a qualified building surveyor, builder, and has spent much of his career with the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) researching and developing building regulation in areas ranging from fire safety to energy efficiency.

Matt is currently leading the delivery of the ABCB’s response to the Shergold and Weir - Building Confidence Report (BCR), on behalf of Building Ministers. He quotes ‘the BCR presents a once in a lifetime opportunity to delve deep into the building regulatory systems that underpins the construction of buildings, through a nationally coordinated review and response. If done right, there are significant benefits on offer to governments, industry and the community’.
